Wow, I was thinking about a word that my sister, Elaine, preached about value; then I started thinking about what was the most expensive thing to exist on the earth? The alabaster box was something that was so expensive to man, precious as it says in Mark 14:3, but was a small price to pay to anoint the Savior of the world for burial. I believe the most expensive thing to ever exist on the earth was The Body of Jesus, who wouldn’t agree? The only thing a rich man can’t pay for that he would pay for if it had a price, is eternal life. Jesus Himself became that price for eternal life. Making Him the most valued and coveted person ever, whether men know it or not, they will. He is more valuable than all the gold and silver that ever existed, more valuable than the world itself and all its green pastures. Because even the world and all of its riches from the beginning of time to now could not pay the price for eternal life. “For the redemption of your soul is very expensive and your resources are not sufficient” (Psalm 49:8). Now, how cheap does that make the alabaster box look in comparison to how valuable Jesus really was? All the riches that will ever exist cannot pay for what only the Body of Jesus paid for. Now think about this, the most expensive and valuable thing on earth was actually broken to have you…
Now that the most expensive and valuable body was broken for you, spent on you, and sacrificed in exchange for you. The devil says, “Oh, what a waste. Look how they act, look what they do. You could have spent it to have the 7 mountains and all its glory. You could have been the richest, most influential man ever; the whole world would have loved you, Jesus. Yet you wasted it on them.” The devil wanted to use the Heavenly Alabaster Box to exalt Jesus even more. But Jesus wanted to break it over you instead. God chose you over the 7 mountains, over all the glory and riches of this world. The devil wanted to use this alabaster box to give Jesus what a man would want (Matthew 4:8-10). But Jesus gave this alabaster box to give God what He wanted. You. The blood of God Himself was shed in exchange for you. The only body God ever got to have for Himself, He gave as an offering to have you. He considers you a greater inheritance than the most expensive man to ever walk the earth. Man, how expensive are you actually? Royalty was killed to have you.
God gave up perfection, royalty, pure holiness, and all righteousness fulfilled in one man, exactly what God wanted in a man, but really it was not just a man, but it was actually Him, Himself. Then God decided to fill His own body with every abomination, sin, and defilement. The sins of murderers, harlots, adulterers, everything He utterly hates, He put upon Himself, all so He can have you. How expensive are you? Can you see it? “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Knowing that God defiled His own self with the sins of men, a Holy God profaned the holiest of temples, even His own, just so He can dwell in you! A more valuable temple that He desired to live in. He gave up the apple of His eye, His own self, for you. Man saw the alabaster box as a highly expensive item; we see Jesus as the most expensive and valuable item, but God sees us, us, the Body of Christ, as His most coveted, expensive, and precious item because He gave it all for this item. How valuable something is is based on how much someone is willing to pay for it. And God was willing to give it all. Himself. How expensive and valuable are you? So expensive and valuable that the blood of God Himself was the price to have you. “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's” (1 Corinthians 6:20). If the price that was paid to have you doesn’t convince you that you are valuable, nothing else will.
